Welcome to Term 3 2025

2 Corinthians 9:8

“And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all

times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The Primary staff and I are very much looking forward to launching into Term 3, continuing to immerse ourselves in this year’s theme, EQUIP, as we pursue excellence for His glory and grow as people who love God and put Him first in our lives. A highlight of the year so far was undoubtedly the baptism of four Primary students in mid-Term 2. What a joy it was to witness this public declaration of their Chrisitan faith during the Sunday church service—a truly special moment for us all. It has also been encouraging to see our students thriving in their understanding of God’s Word. They have embraced the weekly Scripture memory verses, and many have completed the Scripture Challenge. Through our Equip theme, students are growing in their faith—learning the order of the books of the Bible by heart, regularly reading their Bibles, and proudly receiving a special medallion for memorising the revised passage on the Armour of God. A heartfelt thank you to our amazing parents for the intentional investment you are making in your children’s Christian faith at home. Your partnership is such a blessing.

Primary Production – Finding Nemo – Wednesday 3 & Thursday 4 September

The biggest event of the year in Primary is around the corner. All Primary students from Prep-Year 6 are performing in our production of Finding Nemo Jr. at the Drum Theatre Dandenong this term. The students have been working hard practicing their lines, lyrics and dance movements for this event. Each student will be performing on one of these nights and it is a compulsory event for all. We look forward to celebrating your child’s giftings in the Arts. Please keep an eye out for which night your child/children will be performing. A sticker will be placed in their diary at the beginning of Term 3.

Taking Pride in Our College Grounds: Let’s Work Together!

We have noticed an increasing amount of rubbish and lunch containers being left around the school playground. Our lost property was once again overflowing with unclaimed expensive containers. A new initiative we will be trialing during Term 3 will be for all Primary students to be eating their snacks and lunch in the classroom. No food will be taken outside. Students will be given a period of time to eat their food and then the remainder will be packed away and rubbish taken home. We would also greatly appreciate your support in reminding your child/children to take pride in their college environment. Please encourage them to pick up any litter they see and to always dispose of their own rubbish responsibly. Together, we can help keep our college a clean and beautiful place for everyone and save parents money purchasing extra containers throughout the year. Thank you for your support.

Healthy Lunchbox Content

Please continue to monitor what you are adding to your child’s lunch box daily. It has been noticed that quite a few lunch boxes are beginning to contain too many sugary and junk food items. Apart from the sugar hype that results in the consumption of such foods, students also become irritable and lack concentration. I happened to be coming through the prep classrooms during lunch and the content of the lunch boxes was wonderful to see. I also noticed that many parents are beginning to ensure that they provide their students with lunches with no wrappers which is the way we would like to head in the future. Great job parents 😊

A Good Start to the School Day - 8:45am

A gentle reminder about the importance of eating a healthy breakfast before school and being punctual. Eating a good breakfast provides students with the energy and nutrients needed to concentrate and learn effectively throughout the morning. It helps improve memory, attention, and overall academic performance. A healthy breakfast also supports better behaviour and mood, setting a positive tone for the school day. Helping your child develop good habits around arriving on time is a key part of their training in responsibility. This starts with ensuring they have enough time to unpack their school bag, have their homework and fruit break ready, and be lined up calmly outside the classroom, prepared for the day ahead. I strongly encourage families to aim for an 8:45am drop-off, which allows students plenty of time to settle and start their day with

confidence and focus. While we’ve seen a great improvement compared to this time last year…..thank you! …there are still a few students racing up the path as the bell rings. Let’s continue working together to set our children up for success with a calm and punctual start each morning.

Before School Care - Important Update

Starting Monday, 1st September, Camp Australia will take over running the Before School Care program. Currently, this program is free and run by the college, but due to growing numbers, we can no longer continue this way. Camp Australia will now provide care from 7:00am each morning. Students will enjoy a healthy breakfast and fun activities like arts and crafts, science, sports, imaginative play, and more! If you’ve already registered with Camp Australia (which most families have), simply book the morning session in the app. Students must be

registered to attend.

To register, click here: https://pp.campaustralia.com.au

More information will be sent via DM to all parents.

If you have any questions, please contact Kathryn Samuel via SEQTA DM.

Absent Record

Our college has a duty of care to ensure that all student attendance records are accurate and up to date. In Primary, attendance is recorded twice daily, and in Secondary, it is recorded for every class. To meet legislative requirements, parents must contact Student Reception on the day of their child’s absence to provide a reason. Reception staff will then enter this information into SEQTA. Thank you for your support and attention to this important matter.

Semester 1 Reports and

Parent Teacher Student Interviews

(PTS Conference)

If you have any questions regarding your child’s Semester 1 report, please do not hesitate to register your PTS interviews when the link becomes available.  We will be having face to face conferences on Thursday 31 July from 4:00pm – 8:00pm and online conferences Friday 1 August (Student Free Day). Please remember that if you ever need to speak urgently with your child’s teacher at any other time throughout the school year, please send a Direct Message on SEQTA or a note in the student school diary with your request for an interview, and the teacher will coordinate a time to meet with you as soon as is possible.

Swimming Program Years 5 and 6

Term 3 gives our Year 5 and 6 students the opportunity to participate in the LCC 6-day swimming program with instructors at Toby Haenen Swim Centre. Please ensure you have given consent on Consent2Go when you receive the notification. Year 5/6 - Friday 25 July – 4 August.

Child Safety

A reminder that no student can walk or ride their bikes home form school without prior written confirmation from parents.  Once we have this information your child will be given a ‘Walking Home’ card which is attached to the back pocket of the school bag. Staff at the back gate will be checking for this tag in order to keep our students safe. Please also note that students riding to and from school on their bicycles must be wearing a helmet.

Grand Parents Morning

This year our Primary Grandparents are invited on Friday 8 August to spend Period 1 in our Prep-3 classrooms. Invitations will be sent soon. Years 4-6 are designing special bookmarks, poems, and cards for our local Bupa Aged Care in Bonbeach. We will be taking students in the Primary choir to visit with these special people to

sing and show our appreciation and love for them as we celebrate Grandparents Day in the wider community.

Uniform

Areas Still Requiring Attention:

  • Please check your child’s shirt collar – the top button must be able to be fastened. If it’s too tight, please purchase the next size shirt.
  • School ties should sit neatly under the collar. Adjust plastic clips and tighten the elastic so the knot is not visible and the tie sits snugly.
  • Encourage your child to polish their black leather school shoes regularly – ideally on Friday afternoons and mid-week.
  • Winter accessories (beanies, scarves, gloves, coats, jackets) must be navy-blue or black. Please note that the college puffer jacket is now available in smaller sizes for our Primary students at the uniform shop. It is expensive so I encourage you to purchase a much larger size.
  • Only black leather lace-up school shoes are permitted - no black runners.
  • For added warmth, plain white singlets or T-shirts may be worn under the uniform if not visible.
  • Girls’ hair accessories must be black or navy-blue only.
  • Girls may wear plain round stud earrings only.
  • Please label all clothing on the tags with a laundry marker or iron on names – we have too many items of clothing without names in lost property!

Scripture Challenge 2024 – Ephesians 4:1-13

We are excited to award the Scripture Challenge Medal to Primary students who complete the challenge by the end of this term. To be eligible, students must pass all Homeroom Scripture passages set each week or term. The Final date for completion: Week 8A – Friday 12 September. Let us encourage our students to memorise and hide God’s Word in their hearts!

Jefferson and Vania

Please encourage your child to bring a small donation each week for our sponsor children, Jefferson and Vania. Money can be placed in the classroom’s sponsor box. Boxes are collected every Thursday by our Parents & Friends helpers. All funds go toward providing clothing, education, and healthcare for Jefferson and Vania. Thank you for helping us make a difference!

Chess Tutoring

We are now opening up our Chess Tutoring to our Prep students from Term 3 onwards. Professional tutors in Chess (Kids Unlimited) come into the school and teach our students the art of playing chess.  The cost is $200/student/term.  There are 8 sessions per term beginning Wednesday 30 July 2025.  Students participating in the Chess Club meet BM02 1:00pm-1:45pm. If you would like to book your child/children into the Chess Club, then open the invitation using the direct enrolment link below or QR code. This will take you through to complete your booking. A great opportunity for students to build focus, strategy, and thinking skills!

Perform Education Book Week Incursion Friday 22 August

‘Treasure Hunt’ is an action-packed interactive adventure, written by Craig Christie and featuring a selection of 2025 CSCA Short Listed books. The musical incursion will send students of all ages on a treasure hunt exploring themes of sustainability and our relationship with the natural environment, as well as celebrating how books and reading create understanding and bring people of different backgrounds together.

Your child’s teacher will be sending a direct message via SEQTA with information about the book their class will be focusing on for Book Week. As part of the celebrations, students will enjoy rotating between classrooms on Wednesday 20 August (Periods 3 & 4) to hear the reading of five picture storybooks from other Primary year levels. Then on Friday 22 August, students are invited to dress up in a costume related to their class book for our much-loved Chapel Book Week Parade. A prize will be awarded to the best costume in each class! During our special Book Week Chapel, we will also announce the Wushka Awardees from Term 2 and present them with their special book prizes. We look forward to a wonderful week of celebrating reading and imagination together!

Father’s Day Drive Through Breakfast.

We look forward this year to seeing many of our fathers dropping off their children Friday 5 September from 7:00am-9:00am to receive a special drive through Father’s Day breakfast. Fathers will receive through their car window a special breakfast bag and gift attached, as they drive towards the back exit gate after dropping their children at ‘Kiss and Go’ 7:15am – 9:00am. We want to begin Father’s Day in a special and practical way for the busy and hard-working dads at Lighthouse Christian College.
